THIEL President Kathy Gornik Re-elected Chair of Consumer Electronics Association Board of Directors

LEXINGTON,KY: Kathy Gornik, President of speaker manufacturer THIEL Audio, has been re-elected chairman of the Consumer Electronics Association's Board of Directors and Executive Board for 2004. Her 2003 election made her simultaneously the first woman, the first executive of a small manufacturing company, and the first representative of the high-end audio community to serve in that position. Gornik continued her new leadership position on January 1, 2004.

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), located in Arlington, VA, represents more than 1,000 companies involved in the design, development, manufacturing, distribution and integration of audio, video, mobile electronics, wireless and landline communications, information technology, home networking, multimedia and accessory products. Combined, CEA's members account for more than $80 billion in annual sales. CEA also sponsors and manages the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), one of the largest trade shows in North America.

Gornik intends to use her new position to promote the interests of all of the CEA's members and to "use every pertinent opportunity to inform the buying public about high-quality audio products, many of which are designed and made by American companies," says Gornik. A volunteer member of the CEA Board for more than a decade, Gornik sees "copyright issues, non-tariff trade barriers, interoperability standards, and the DTV tuner mandate," as immediate issues to address.

THIEL Audio has been manufacturing high performance loudspeakers since 1976, now in their 27th year. Exporting speakers to over 28 countries, THIEL loudspeakers have won 14 "Speaker" or "Product of the Year" Awards and have received CES's "Design and Engineering Award" 19 times. "There is a certain natural leverage in my association with THIEL that may benefit the entire high end audio industry," she says, "But I will be working for the CEA as a whole."

Gornik replaced chairman Ronald Stone, President of Pioneer Electronics, who stepped down at the end of the 2002, but remained on the Board. "In addition to being the first female to serve as Chairman, Kathy will provide us with the point of view of a small business executive," said CEA president and CEO Gary Shapiro. "In total, we are blessed with an active, dedicated leadership comprised of top industry executives who join together to provide CEA with the vision and direction necessary to help us meet our mission of growing the CE industry."
