The new CS2.3

The new THIEL CS2.3 has become the fastest selling THIEL loudspeaker
in the company's 20 year history. Since the product's introduction
in December of 1997, thousands of listeners have experienced
the CS2.3's outstanding realistic performance, and it has set
the audio industry abuzz with excitement.
The CS2.3 is a three-way, floor-standing dynamic speaker system
designed for very realistic sound reproduction in home music
and video sound systems.
New coaxially mounted drivers
The new CS2.3's most innovative design feature is a newly designed
coaxial tweeter/midrange driver where the two drivers' diaphragms
share the same voice coil. This innovation utilizes a
mechanical crossover between the midrange and tweeter diaphragms
that allows the elimination of the usual electrical crossover
network. "The coaxial driver mounting results in perfect
time coherence regardless of listener position, improving imaging
and transient fidelity," says designer Jim Thiel. "The
design of the mechanical crossover contributes to the speaker's
improved phase coherence and uniform frequency response."
All THIEL designed and built
The CS2.3 drivers, all built at THIEL, feature aluminum diaphragms
and very low distortion short coil/long gap, copper stabilized
motor systems. The 8-inch, long excursion woofer, coupled with
the 9-inch passive radiator, delivers high bass output and dynamics
down to 35 Hz.
Time and phase coherent design
As with all THIEL loudspeakers, the CS2.3 utilizes a first-order
crossover system to eliminate phase distortion, a sloping front
baffle to provide time coherence, and very high quality components
to reduce distortion and improve clarity.
New black laminate finish
"The CS2.3 is available in a wide variety of finishes, including
a new standard-priced black laminate finish," says company
president Kathy Gornik. "The CS2.3's carefully crafted cabinetry
will enhance any home environment."
Specifications include a frequency response of ±2 dB
from 37 Hz to 20 kHz (35 Hz to 23 kHz, -3 dB bandwidth), a sensitivity
of 87 dB @ 2.8 V-1m, phase response within ±5° of
minimum, and a 4 ohm nominal impedance. The cabinet's dimensions
are 11 inches wide, 15 inches deep, and 41.5 inches tall and
the weight is 70 pounds.
