A tower system has to have plenty of energy in reserve so it can effortlessly deliver the full impact of dramatic sound effects, symphonic crescendos, or progressive metal onslaughts. At the same time, it has to reveal a singer’s pause for breath, the merest touch of a fingertip on a harp string, or the way Miles weaves like a fighter in front of the microphone. And THIEL Engineering achieves it all – in the TT1.



ALUMINUM WOOFER

Jim Thiel loved aluminum cones for their low mass and pistonic rigidity. We feel the same way, and so do the Danish craftsmen at Scan-Speak, who produced these woofers specifically optimized for the TT1 under the direction of THIEL Engineering. While one 6.5” Aluminum woofer might have been nice, we felt two would provide the gravitas befitting a speaker of this caliber.




FIBERGLASS MIDRANGE

Fiberglass cones combine low mass and high rigidity with greater damping than other materials. So we chose it as the ideal material to use while working with SEAS on a midrange cone that would define “uncolored.” This 4.25” midrange is perfectly matched with the woofers and tweeter in the TT1.


TITANIUM DOME TWEETER

We chose Titanium dome tweeters in the TT1 because the high frequency break-up mode (which typically occurs at inaudible levels) is more damped than other materials. In addition, the waveguide helps activate your listening space without blurring spatial imaging.



SYSTEM INTEGRATION CROSSOVER

How do you fuse three critically engineered components into one system? At THIEL Engineering, we went beyond mathematical formulae to not only reduce distortion but dial in the sensitivity.  And our efforts were rewarded with the performance of the TT1. It employs a multi-order crossover that aligns multiple variables to ensure the drivers are merged for the purest sound possible. This improves the reliability of the entire system, enabling it to handle the power you use to listen - at the volume you like.


ACOUSTICALLY NEUTRAL ENCLOSURE

Form follows function, with graceful curved edges that minimize diffraction. Inside, each driver has its own chamber to reduce the internal standing waves. And as with so many of our design elements, we removed as much ‘noise’ from the system as possible, leaving you with the most accurate sound reproduction possible.



LOW TURBULENCE PORT

From the length, diameter and curve to the flared mouth, this port is optimized to project low frequency energy without adding or subtracting from the source.
